Marching with the Wall Street Occupiers

(Wednesday, October 5, 2011)

Marching against the great divide
Separating the haves
From the have nots
Being squeezed outside
Who may be “the 99%”
But who will not relent
In speaking out against those in the
Executive chairs
Who allow, and participate in
“Robbing the middle-class to pay the rich”
Those who profit from greed
And dirty misdeeds
And our “politicians who reign as
The priesthoods of capitalization.”

They put their feet to the plow
To march in protest
Against the inequality
And discrimination by the well-fed
Fatted cows;
To proclaim Justice
Is the American declaration
Written in the sands of time
On our side
Of independence

To forge ahead
As a united people
For a more perfect union
Of government formed
For the people
And by the people.

Read the writing on the wall –
“Invest in people and education”
For the good of all.
Otherwise we all
Destruct, crumble and fall…
Like Humpty Dumpty
Who sat on the wall;
Who had a great fall
And no one could put
Humpty Dumpty back together again.

The End

Protest and Unrest

(To mark the day of the dedication of the
Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial – 10-16-2011)

We march For the human right
To prosper
To grow
In proportion to our aims and dreams
For which we aspire.

We rally
Around the flag
Of equal opportunities
Established and afforded
For all who apply
Empowered as rightfully given and inherited
By our pre-destiny
As we the people
Taking the pathway
Which leads
To the MLK right of way
Of change a’comin’
With the dawn

As we stretch upwards
Our hands
To higher heights
For we who believe
In freedom cannot rest.
Shouldering our faith and hope
In the possibilities

We pray for justice
And human dignity for all.
For out of a mountain of despair
The stone of hope
Is sweet honey in the rock

And we shall overcome
Today
As we press on
In this mounting movement
To transform a nation
Into a beloved community
Where our children can grow
Free and strong.
Amen,
Yes, we can.

We must stand up
And say
Yes to ourselves.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where
He stands in moments of comfort and convenience
But where he stands at times of challenge
And controversy.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Lady of Tishri

She comes forth
With the cool breeze
Whistling about her dress
Frocked in vibrant crimsons and oranges,
Vivid yellows and browns in the greens
To shade the day
Falling
In commemoration of Lady Tishri’s gloried advent

She rallies up her gales
Where the river boat hails
To ride on the sultry sea
With her captain’s fancy
Planted and rooted in the trunk of her tree
Calling Out the dimness of light
Passing on to night

The Lady rests her wings
Under the shadows of the sun and moon
Her canvas bearing
The supple paints layered
Within the folds of her skirt
By the dutifully placed brush strokes
To bespeak the expression of
Dawn to dusk
Lolling
On the meadow
In the glow of sunrise and sunset

To capture the lure
Of the sun’s golden delicious fruits
For delightful in-gatherings
In preparation to partake of the lush banquet
Ushered into the season
Of change
From face
To face
Installing
Another time and place

When Summer blossoms
Turn over
A new leaf
Written in the wind
As
The radiant spell
Of Jubilee
Is cast upon the sea
Somersaulting
In the enchanting autumn charm
Of the Lady of Tishri

( Tishri is the Hebrew for Autumn)
